Dr. Jerrie Bezuidenhout, a Psychiatrist reached out to us to develop a logo for his private practise. With clear instructions to stay away from the usual graphical interpretations of the brain and hands reaching out we searched for inspiration not in his field of speciality but in his name.
The central theme of the logo can be found in the "J". The shape and slight angle of this symbol is reminiscent of a human figure but can also be interpreted as the soul, a figure reaching for the sky. This shape is hopeful, content and happy. The mirror of this shape brings balance to the overall look and feel of the logo and echo the idea that all things exist as inseparable and contradictory opposites.
The colour scheme combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red to form a lilac-purple reminiscent of the Jacaranda trees that gave Pretoria it's notoriety as the Jacaranda city.
Because purple has a variety of effects on the mind and body, including uplifting spirits, calming the mind and nerves, enhancing the sacred, creating feelings of spirituality, increasing nurturing tendencies and sensitivity, and encouraging imagination and creativity we felt it is the perfect colour for a psychiatry practise.
